A Message From First Presbyterian Church
This year’s honoree for First Presbyterian Church of Monroe’s Souper Bowl of Caring is Bill Thaxton.
Bill cared deeply for First Presbyterian and its efforts to help make the community better. He was well-known for his love of music and dancing in the aisles when the church praise band had its turn. He met his wife, Janice, in school and built a loving family, and his positive presence is missed dearly.
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a youth-inspired movement that has raised more than $170 million nationally across 30-plus years. Dollars in this campaign directly help the Community Shelter of Union County.
Over the past three years, every dollar raised in the Souper Bowl of Caring averages $18 worth of food assistance. That fits Bill perfectly, for he was proud of his ability to stretch a dollar. Let’s honor Bill and his family as we help end homelessness and hunger for our neighbors.
